QUICK START GUIDE

Marshal scheme – a quick start guide

In order to run a race day we need over 20 people. These people carry out all sorts of functions  - some examples are:

  Clerk of the Course
  MSA and Club stewards
  Scrutineers
  Race secretaries
  Lap counters
  Start /finish line
 Pit and flag marshals
  ARKS testers
 Paramedics & St John’s Ambulance

.........the list goes on.

It can be quite a logistical challenge to ensure that the correct numbers of people as well as the correctly qualified people in the case of official positions are available on race day.

So how do we do it?

We belong to the JMC&LCC Marshal scheme.

Every racing member of the kart club is entered into the marshal scheme. On entry you are given 10 marshal points ( for families it is only the first member that is awarded 10 points). Every time you enter a race you lose a marshal point. If you have a 0 balance on your marshal account you cannot race until such time as your marshal account is back in credit.

You do not have a marshal point deducted from your account when you are still working towards your ARKS test (known as an unlicensed driver) but as soon as you have passed it each time you enter a race you will be deducted a marshal point.

You earn marshal points in 2 ways.

1. By supplying a marshal at an event where you are entered

2. By marshalling at an event where you are not entered *

If you enter a kart club race and agree to supply a marshal you get 2 points, 1 of which is deducted as your entry. So each race you enter and agree to supply a marshal your marshal account increases by 1. (For families it is only 1 point per family that is deducted not 1 per driver).

If you agree to supply a marshal at a kart club race and are not entered you gain 4 points. This applies to unlicensed drivers. This means that if you are unlicensed you can agree to supply a marshal and earn 4 points for your marshal account. As soon as you have passed your ARKS test  you are classed as a novice driver  and each time you enter a race and agree to supply a marshal your balance will only increase by 1.

For junior members – it is the parents that earn the marshal points as juniors are not allowed to marshal themselves.

*Different events earn different points. Full details are on the Jerseymotorsport website www.jerseymotorsport.com You can marshal at non kart club events to earn points.

So how do we work out who is doing what?

You can complete a marshal commitment form – which can be found on the JMC&LCC website www.jerseymotorsport.com and send it to the JMC&LCC secretary. These forms are available at the beginning of the year and you can fill it out for the entire season if you so choose. Beware - if you agree to supply then don’t - your marshal account is penalised.

Prior to each race meet our race secretary will advise the JMC&LCC secretary of the race entry list. The JMC&LCC secretary will then advise who of the race entry have agreed to supply a marshal (commitment) and then if there are not sufficient commitments to fill all the flag marshal posts those of the race entry who have not committed and are not already supplying an official, will be told to supply a flag marshal.

Those with the lowest marshal account balances will be told to supply a marshal until all the positions have been filled. The lower your account balance the more chance there is that you will be told to supply. If you are told to supply you DO NOT earn any points for your marshal account. If you turn up on race day without a marshal when you have been told to supply - you will have to marshal yourself. If you do not turn up - your marshal account will be penalised.

When you have committed to supply for a race you will receive a reminder through the post about 10 days before race day. If you are required to supply you will be sent a notification card advising you that you need to supply a marshal.

TOP TIP: if you think you may be asked to supply – offer first - that way you earn points

It’s a bit like pay to play........just supply to race.

If you have any questions on how the marshal scheme operates, please contact our marshal liaison team on marshal@jerseykartclub.com

Points System.

Every time you enter an event one point will be deducted from your account irrespective of the event duration. You can earn plus points for your account by carrying out commitments, volunteering to supply or being asked to supply. Account scores will run for life and will not be reset at the end of each season, so you can carry credit over to the following year.
