Campaign for a permanent kart track in Jersey!

The Credit Suisse Jersey International Motoring Festival 2009.

Motorsport returned to West Park after some 50 years when the Inner Road was closed on Sunday 7 June in order for Jersey's kart racers and others to give live demonstrations of motorsport disciplines. Amazingly 37 karts took to the temporary track, including 5 historic vehicles which were nevertheless driven hard by their equally classic owner drivers. A huge crowd of spectators enjoyed demonstration runs featuring each of the 5 kart classes, with drivers aged from 8 to 70 years old demonstrating their skill and enjoyment of this fine sport. Enthusiasts were also treated to a commentary on the history of karting from its grass roots involving home-made chassis powered by lawn mower or chain saw engines in the MidWest, through to its arrival in the UK and Europe courtesy of the American Armed Forces and the technological developments leading to today's racers.

Karts from all ages took part in the event.....
